How to Transfer Files Between Your Computer and Your Remote Desktop
Efficient methods to transfer files seamlessly between your computer and remote desktop for improved workflow and productivity.
Last updated: May, 2026
Use this article if: you need to move files between your local computer and your Verito remote desktop session.
How long this takes: Varies. Copy-paste is instant. Drive redirection takes 5 minutes to set up once. FileMail depends on file size.
There are three ways to transfer files. Choose the one that fits your situation.
Method 1: Copy and Paste (best for single/few files and folders)
This method uses clipboard redirection. If copy-paste is not working, follow the "How to Enable Copy and Paste" article first.
1. Connect to your remote desktop
Make sure clipboard redirection is enabled in your RDP profile settings (see the linked article above).
2. Copy a file on your local computer
Select the file, then press Ctrl+C.
3. Paste it inside the remote desktop
Click inside your remote desktop session and press Ctrl+V. The file will appear in the target location.
To go the other direction, copy from inside the remote desktop and paste to your local computer.
Method 2: Drive Redirection (best for regular file access)
This maps your local drives inside the RDP session so you can browse and copy files freely. Follow the "How to Access Your Local Drives" article to set this up.
1. Configure drive redirection (one-time setup)
See the "How to Access Your Local Drives Inside Your Remote Desktop Session" article.
2. Access your local drives inside the session
Once configured, open File Explorer in your remote desktop session, click This PC, and locate your drive under Redirected drives and folders.
3. Copy files
Copy and paste files between the redirected drive and any folder on the remote server.
Method 3: FileMail (best for large files)
Use this method when files are too large for clipboard or when you need to upload from outside an active RDP session.
1. Upload your file
Go to verito.filemail.com on your local browser. Upload the file. A support ticket is automatically created to place the file on your server.
2. Download inside your RDP session
You will receive a download link by email. Open your remote desktop session, paste the link into a browser, and download the file directly to the server.
