Moving from Rightworks to Verito: What Changes for You
Last updated: May, 2026
Use this article if: your firm is moving from Rightworks to Verito and you want to know what will be different before your first login.
How long this takes: 5 minutes to read. Your first login takes about 10 minutes.
The good news first: your applications, your files, and your work do not change. QuickBooks is still QuickBooks. UltraTax is still UltraTax. What changes is how you get to them. This guide covers exactly that.
The big picture: portal vs. desktop
At Rightworks, you signed into a website and clicked an app icon. Each app opened in its own window on your computer.
At Verito, you open a connection file on your desktop and get a complete second Windows desktop, running in the cloud. Your apps live inside that desktop, and you launch them the same way you would on any Windows computer: from the desktop icons or the Start menu.

Rightworks streamed one app at a time. Verito gives you the whole office in one desktop.
Old way vs. new way
What you did at Rightworks |
What you do at Verito |
|---|---|
Opened a browser and signed into the Rightworks portal |
Double-click the Verito connection file saved on your desktop |
Clicked an app icon and waited for it to stream |
Your full cloud desktop opens; launch apps from its icons or Start menu |
Citrix Workspace ran in the background |
Windows Remote Desktop handles the connection (already on your PC) |
Apps appeared in separate floating windows |
Everything lives inside one cloud desktop window (full screen if you like) |
MFA depended on your setup |
A Duo prompt on your phone approves every login |
Your first login, step by step
You will receive a welcome email from Verito with your username, a temporary password, and a connection file.

The daily routine after day one: double-click, password, tap approve, work.
1. Save the connection file (it ends in .rdp) to your desktop. You will use this same file every day, so keep it where you can find it.
2. Double-click the file. The first time, Windows shows a message asking if you trust this connection. This is normal and expected. Tick Don't ask me again and click Connect.

The one-time trust message. It looks alarming; it is routine.
3. Enter your Verito username and password.
4. Approve the Duo notification on your phone. (You will have set up the Duo Mobile app before this, using our Duo setup guide.)
5. Your cloud desktop opens. You should now see a Windows desktop with your firm's applications on it.
Where your files are

One shared drive for the firm; your Desktop, Documents, and Downloads stay private.
• The shared data drive is where your firm's working files live. Everyone in your firm can see this drive, just like the shared drive you had before.
• Desktop, Documents, and Downloads inside your cloud desktop are private to you. No one else in your firm can see files you keep there.
• To move a small file between your own computer and the cloud desktop, simple copy and paste works.
• For large files, use Filemail, which your onboarding engineer will show you on your kickoff call.
Printing and scanning
If your printer works on your local computer, it will appear inside your cloud desktop automatically. Print from any app the way you always have.
If your firm scans documents, Verito can setup TSScan so your scanner works inside the cloud desktop too. Ask your onboarding contact if you do not see it.
Two or more monitors
Your cloud desktop can stretch across all your screens. Before connecting, right-click the connection file, choose Edit, open the Display tab, and tick Use all my monitors for the remote session. You only need to do this once.
If you use a Mac
Install the free Windows App from the Mac App Store (this is Microsoft's official remote desktop client and the one we recommend). Open it, add the connection details from your welcome email, and the rest of this guide works the same: password, Duo approval, cloud desktop.
Small habits that change
• Signing out: when you finish for the day, use the Sign-Out icon on the cloud desktop rather than just closing the window. Closing the window leaves your session running; signing out closes it cleanly.
• Changing your password: use the Reset Password icon on the cloud desktop.
• One desktop, not many windows: if you are used to Rightworks apps floating next to your local apps, full-screen the cloud desktop and switch between it and your local computer with the connection bar at the top of the screen.
You should now see
After your first login: a full Windows desktop with your firm's applications, your shared data drive, and your printer available. After your data migration completes: your client files and prior-year data exactly where your onboarding engineer walked you through finding them.
If that didn't work
• Nothing happens when you double-click the connection file: right-click it, choose Open with, and select Remote Desktop Connection.
• The Duo prompt never arrives: open the Duo Mobile app on your phone and check for a pending request, then check your phone's notification settings for Duo.
• Password rejected: passwords are case sensitive; check for a space copied at the end of the temporary password from the welcome email.
Need a hand? Verito support is available 24/7 with a live person. Call the support line in your welcome email or email support@verito.com. During your trial, you can also reach your named onboarding contact directly; their details are in your kickoff email.
